Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVOR RN)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM - 11:00 PM)
  • On-Call: Yes, 1 weekend 24-hour call per month (Saturday or Sunday)
  • Holiday Coverage: Possible holiday shifts required
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • Experience Details:
    • Must be able to circulate in all services including CT, Vascular, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Colorectal, Robotics, Bariatric
    • Scrubbing Cardiac/Vascular cases highly preferred
    • First-time travelers not preferred
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-state RN license required at start of contract
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (AHA only)
    • ACLS (AHA only)
    • Radiation badge (provided by agency)
  • Local Radius Rule: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Work Eligibility: I-9 attestation and completed form required
  • Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
    • SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Licensure Verification:
    • Primary source verification of active, unencumbered license required
    • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): AHA or ARC certification required for all clinical staff
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): AHA certification required for adult critical care units and specified areas
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Required for pediatric units except Pediatric OR
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): AHA/AAP certification required
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): AWHONN or NCC certification required as applicable
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Radiation Badge: Required for CVOR RN and other specified roles; must be obtained before starting floor work
  • IV Certification: Required for select LPNs if applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and other specified units

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Highly preferred but not required; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted, declinations not accepted

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2-6 hours depending on location
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background required before start
  • Emergency Preparedness: Awareness of hurricane season assignments (June-November)

Additional Notes

  • Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2 weeks (pay period)
  • All required documents and certifications must be current and valid at start
  • Radiation badge process may take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start floor work without it
  • Travelers must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with required certifications and licensure who are comfortable with on-call responsibilities and working in a Level I Trauma Center environment.
