Job Opportunity: Med-Surg Acute Care (MSAC) RN

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Details

• Department: Med-Surg Acute Care
• Beds: 18 (mostly private rooms, 1 semi-private)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 4-5 patients per nurse
  • Nights: 5-6 patients per nurse
• Patient Types: General medical patients with various diagnoses
• Common Drips: Heparin (RNs required to titrate)

Shift & Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm & 7pm-7am)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights)
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation per policy
• Call: No call or standby required
• Floating: Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: 24-hour coverage, may have patient assignment
• House Supervisor: 24/7 coverage
• Patient Care Techs: 2 per shift, ratio approx. 9:1 when full
• Telemetry: Monitored remotely by telemetry department; unit uses Phillips equipment
• Unit Clerk: 24-hour coverage

Orientation & Training

• Orientation: One 12-hour shift with unit preceptor for travel RNs
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA) required
  • IL RN license required
  • ACLS preferred for Charge RN position
• Experience: 1+ year hospital experience preferred

Clinical & Operational Notes

• Oxygen: Patients may require up to 6L NC, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN
• IV Starts: RNs expected to attempt IV starts; inpatient phlebotomy team available if needed
• Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7 pharmacy staff prepare all medications
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed (staff provide their own; no pediatric scrubs)

Additional Information

• Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required for all panels
• Local Placement: Accepts clinicians within 50-mile radius
• Orientation Hours: 12 non-billable hours
• Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty

This position is ideal for RNs with Med-Surg experience looking for a 13-week contract in a supportive acute care environment with stable patient ratios and comprehensive onsite resources.
