Description

Registered Nurse (Ortho RN) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: 38 bed unit
  • Shift: Nights, either 4x12 or 3x12 shifts (1845-0715)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every third weekend
  • On-call: None
  • Floating: May float within scope to other Med Surg departments as needed
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • License: Must have an active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; cancellations beyond that will be billed. On-call shifts count as called-off shifts.

  • Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), Telemetry experience, Cerner experience, previous travel experience
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy Skills: PICC line management, starting IVs required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting: Illinois Health Care Worker Registry search required; fingerprints must be taken in Illinois 3 business days prior to start
  • Education Verification: Initial degree verification required; unofficial or official transcripts accepted if verification is pending
  • Licenses & Certifications: Primary source verification required for state license and certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS if applicable)
  • Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
  • Photo for Badge: Color photo required within one week of signing contract
  • Code of Conduct: Must review and sign within 7 days of contract signing
  • Flu Vaccine: Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • Physical Exam: Required within one year of start, must confirm good physical and mental health, free of communicable disease, and ability to perform job functions
  • Fit Mask Test: Required for new contracts, acceptable masks include 3M1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+; PAPR users exempt
  • TB Testing: 2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold within one year of start; positive TB requires chest x-ray and documentation
  • Immunizations: Documentation of MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella vaccines or positive titers or signed declinations required
  • Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; negative dilute results require retest
  • References: Two professional references required for clinical candidates
  • Skills Checklist: Required for all clinical candidates

This position is ideal for RNs with orthopedic experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital using Cerner for charting. Candidates must be fully licensed in Illinois and meet comprehensive compliance and immunization requirements.
