Description
Neuro ICU RN Position - Peoria, Illinois
Unit and Patient Care Details
- Department: Neuro ICU
- Unit Size: 18 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
- Required Skills/Experience:
- Ventriculostomy care
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Ventilator management
- Arterial and central line care
- tPA administration
- Acute stroke management
- Post-craniectomy care
- RN Responsibilities:
- Titrate drips as ordered by physicians (various drips, not always set rates)
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow)
- Read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
- Support Staff:
- Charge Nurse present on each shift (may take patient assignments if staffing is low)
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- Nurse Aides/Patient Care Techs with a 9:1 ratio
- Telemetry Tech staffed every shift
Certifications and Requirements
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Active Illinois nursing license or proof of application in process
- Must pass a drug screen (drug-free campus policy)
- Submission Requirements: Last 4 digits of SSN, middle initial, requested time off
Scheduling and Orientation
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (example shift: 7pm-7am)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday
- Orientation: 20 hours total (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- Floating: Travelers float first; nurses may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)
