Respiratory Therapist II - North Carolina, Siler City

Job Summary

• Provide advanced respiratory care under department management and according to established policies.
• Administer airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy respiratory dysfunction.
• Perform standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures.
• Manage airway care including aspiration, tracheostomy care and tube changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations.
• May perform pulmonary function testing as needed.
• When working with Carolina Air Care, transport pediatric and neonatal patients per protocol.
• Perform advanced respiratory procedures such as UAC, UVC, IV insertion, intraosseous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, and blood glucose monitoring as directed.
• When working with ECMO, manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support.
• May be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Perform all aspects of ventilator care including setup, verification, specialized modes, monitoring, and weaning techniques.
• Maintain and improve job knowledge and skills; function independently with minimal supervision.
• Serve as a resource to other staff based on experience.

• 13 weeks

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures.
• Ability to document clinical information accurately.
• Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, family members, and staff.
• Mathematical skills including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Strong reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical situations.

Education Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Depending on practice area, must have at least one of the following certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CPFT (Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist)
  • OR an advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab.
• All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body.
