Med Tele RN - Iron Mountain, Michigan

Position Overview

• Specialty: Med Tele RN (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Facility Size: 24 inpatient beds, with up to 10 observation/day surgeries
• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM & 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays required
• Call/Standby: Opportunity/potential to be placed on call or standby
• Floating: Must be able to float to like units and patients

Patient Care & Unit Details

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 5:1
  • Night shift (11 PM): 6:1
  • Team nursing with LPNs (LPNs work until 11 PM): 2 LPNs per 7 patients
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Nursing home patients (NHP)
  • Cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU issues, pacemaker patients, sepsis
  • Orthopedic day surgeries (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI
  • Small pediatric population (~3/year), only assigned to travelers with prior experience or if no other options
• Charge Nurse: Yes, charge nurse takes an assignment; travelers may be placed as relief charge
• Nurse Aids: Present on unit

Clinical Requirements & Environment

• Required Experience: Minimum 1 year in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry acute care
• Preferred Experience: Knowledge of TURPS-CBI, Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 experience
• IV Skills: Must be comfortable with IV starts (no IV team onsite)
• Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7, RT oversees entire hospital, CPAP equipment available
• Drip Titration: RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Telemetry: Basic tele arrhythmia knowledge required; tele monitoring done in ICU daily; physical monitor at nurse’s desk
• Hospitalist/Intensivist: In-house until 6 PM daily, telemedicine used after hours

Orientation & Training

• Unit-specific orientation includes:

  • Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
  • Day 3: Independent work

Additional Notes

• Dress Code: Solid professional attire, no specific color required
• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous employment with the facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
