Registered Nurse (MICU) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care

Position Details
- Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), days
- Holiday Rotation: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, must float within scope to like units/sister facilities (agency floats first)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensing
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year (preferably 2 years)
- First-time Travelers: Not accepted
- Licensing: South Carolina RN license or Compact license required before start date
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or ARC only, must be current (not expiring within 30 days of start)
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only, must be current
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required, must be current
- Additional Certifications:
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM may be required depending on unit (confirm with team)
- Chemo certification NOT required for this location
- Certification Notes:
- All certifications must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of start
- Copies of all certifications must be provided

- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Local Travelers: Not accepted
- Block Schedule: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years, including SSN trace, statewide, national, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Not required for this facility; diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed
- Work History Verification: Not required for this facility
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
- Radiation Badge: Required only for OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology (not required for this MICU role)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical attesting ability to meet job demands
- TB Testing:
- 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start (T-spot not accepted)
- If positive, chest X-ray proof required
- Vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccine not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for all patient-facing staff
Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation:
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Modules must be completed on a computer/laptop, not a phone
- Failure to complete modules before orientation may result in being sent home
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
- Acknowledgments & Agreements: Must sign assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and user access request prior to start
- Job Description: Required for all candidates
- COVID Religious Exemption: Facility-specific exemption form required if applicable
Notes for Candidates
- Candidates must have all required licenses and certifications valid and in hand before starting
- No local candidates accepted; must be willing to travel and float as needed
- Background checks and health documentation must be current and complete prior to start
- Flu and COVID vaccination policies are strictly enforced with deadlines and documentation upload requirements
- Orientation and compliance modules are mandatory and must be completed timely
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity MICU setting with a reputable acute care facility using Epic charting and a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio. Candidates should be experienced, fully licensed, and prepared to meet comprehensive health and compliance requirements.
