Job Description
Seeking an experienced OB First Assist to join the Labor & Delivery surgical team for night-shift coverage. The ideal candidate will have strong OB operating room experience and proficiency in assisting with cesarean sections and obstetric surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide intraoperative support during obstetric surgeries
- Ensure surgical readiness and maintain sterile technique
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers
- Deliver safe, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced OB environment
- Exercise excellent clinical judgment and effective communication
- Work independently during night shifts
Required Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- NRP (AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Current nursing license with primary source verification (Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start)
- Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
- Ascension Color Vision test (updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Epic Test-Out (training and assessment)
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical competency, updated annually)
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen (within 30 days prior to start, updated annually)
- Ascension Education Verification (within 90 days of start)
- Ascension Criminal Background Check (including SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually)
- Ascension EPLS (within 90 days of start)
- Ascension Employment Verification (past 7 years, updated annually)
- Ascension Confirmation of Assignment (provided upon initial assignment and updates)
- Health Statement or physical exam (updated annually)
- Driver’s License/State ID (valid, must match address requirements)
Required Immunizations and Health Screenings
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
- Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Fit Test: Required annually (preferred prior to start)
- TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within one year, and annual TB questionnaire
- 2 Step PPD or IGRA: Required within 90 days prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Completion of Ascension onboarding requirements and education attestations
- Completion of Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (optional for onboarding)
- Ascension Biometric Consent
- Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules
- Legal documentation for any name changes (if applicable)
- At least two professional references prior to first assignment
This position requires a highly skilled and independent RN with OB surgical experience, ready to provide critical support during night shifts in a busy Labor & Delivery environment.
