Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Oncology/MS RN)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Oncology/Multiple Sclerosis Registered Nurse
- Shift: Nights, either 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
- Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year experience
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Block Scheduling: Open to discussion with manager
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- Licensure: Must have active Illinois nursing license or be in the application process
Certifications & Skills

- Chemotherapy certification (not required)
- OCN and ONS/ONCC preferred
- Required Chemotherapy Skills:
- Administration of chemotherapy
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Continuous infusion and IV push administration of chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing abnormal lab values
- Oral administration of chemotherapy
- Required IV Therapy/Infusion Skills:
- Accessing ports
- Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals
- Blood and blood product administration
- Care and management of ports and central lines (including PICC lines)
- Central line blood draws
- Starting IVs

Requirements & Compliance
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and other state-specific searches
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required
- Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and ability to perform job functions
- Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- References: Two professional references required for clinical candidates
- Photo for Badge: Required within one week of contract signing
- Orientation: Safety manual acknowledgment required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to work with chemotherapy patients but chemo certification is not mandatory.
- Floating may be required to meet facility needs but within scope of practice.
- The facility supports accommodating block schedules upon discussion.
- Candidates without an Illinois license must complete fingerprinting and registry requirements in Illinois prior to start.
- The hospital has a no-call-off policy beyond a limited number of hours during the assignment.
