    Registered Nurse (PICU) - Seattle, Washington (Travel/Contract)

    Position Details

    • Schedule: Monday - Sunday, includes Return to Office (RTO) days (must be included in initial submission)
    • Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 patient ratio
    • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years PICU experience working independently in a 20-bed PICU or larger
    • First-timers Accepted: Yes
    • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekends for a 13-week assignment; more weekends required for longer assignments
    • On-call: Not required but available for pick-up shifts
    • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs; includes one orientation shift in CICU for float training
    • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
    • Locals Accepted: Yes

    Certifications Required

    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Provider only, instructor not accepted
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider only; PALS accepted in lieu of BLS for units requiring BLS
    • WA RN License (Compact license accepted with additional requirements)

    Additional Recommended/Optional Certifications

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider only (required for Air Lift candidates)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Not required for NICU RNs
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) - APHON certification required for applicable units

    Competency Exams & Testing

    • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required (pediatric focus)
    • Competency Exam: Required with minimum 80% score
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for PICU, CICU, NICU, and ER; multiple attempts allowed with remediation
    • Pediatric Competency Exam 2: Required for RNs not booked as Pediatrics (for float readiness)
    • Math Test: Proctored onsite; remediation allowed if failed (not a pass/fail test)
    • EKG Test: Required prior to start for PICU, CICU, NICU, and ER

    Health & Immunization Requirements

    • Physical Exam: Within 1 year (previous exam accepted if gap between contracts is less than 6 months)
    • Fit Mask Test: Valid fit test within 12 months of assignment end; fit testing on site not allowed
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Accepted if given after age 11; expired vaccine accepted if completed after age 11
    • TB Testing: Qgold/Tspot within 12 weeks of start or 2 PPDs (one within 1 year, one within 12 weeks); chest X-ray if past positive TB test
    • TB Questionnaire: Required for all except Emergency and Radiology departments; updated annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Titer or vaccines required; boosters required if low/borderline titers; declinations require physician note
    • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, or signed declination
    • Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if low titer; prior infection documentation accepted
    • Drug Testing: 12-panel drug screen within 1 year of start, covering specific substances (Marijuana, Cocaine, Amphetamines, Opiates, etc.)
    • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct-Mar) or signed declination with completion of declination module
    • COVID Vaccine: Strongly recommended but not required
    • Respirator Medical Clearance: Required annually for respirator use; virtual questionnaire completed prior to start

    Background Checks & Compliance

    • 7-year criminal background check required (or within past year with all searches complete)
    • Multiple specific searches required including FACIS 3, county civil, state and national criminal, sex offender, global sanctions, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
    • Background checks must be fully completed before approval; no pending searches allowed except limited county civil pending with attestation
    • Additional requirements for home health roles (MVR required if driving involved)

    Facility Specific Notes

    • Travelers scheduled for 6 weekends, not every other weekend
    • No RTO during first 2 weeks due to orientation
    • Scheduling is done by facility schedulers; travelers do not self-schedule
    • Potential for precepting opportunities
    • Photo for badge required on blue background within 72 hours of contract signing
    • Mandatory completion of facility-specific modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours)
    • Meal waiver agreement available if candidate wishes to waive 2nd meal period
    • Parking access via ID badge; payroll deduction authorization form required for parking charges
    • Respiratory protection training provided via facility platform (Grow@SC)
    • Practice tests and study guides provided for math and EKG exams

    This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs seeking a pediatric travel assignment in a Magnet-recognized, Level I Trauma teaching hospital with a structured schedule and comprehensive orientation and competency requirements.
