Description
Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Columbus, Ohio
Overview
- Work in a Level 1 Trauma 18-bed Operating Room.
- Surgical specialties include General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant surgeries.
Schedule
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- No Return to Office (RTO) from 2/15/26 through 2/28/26
- Shifts: Day/Evenings
- Hours: 06:30 - 23:30
- Shift lengths: 8, 10, and 12 hours
- 40 hours per week
- Call hours:
- Monday-Friday: 21:00 - 06:30
- Saturday and Sunday: 12-hour shifts (06:30-19:00 and 19:00-06:30)
Responsibilities
- Provide care during surgical procedures.
- Circulate and scrub, focusing on Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases.
- Collaborate closely with the surgical team.
- Maintain patient records using EPIC.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience.
- Experience in Level 1 trauma centers with extensive scrub experience.
- EPIC proficiency.
- BCLS certification.
Preferred Experience
- ENT, GU, Plastics, Burns specialties.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA approved.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA approved; required for certain units starting 11/13/25.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Facility-specific expiration rules.
- NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required prior to start.
- Unit-specific Competency Exams.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required annually for all RNs except certain exclusions.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - Required annually.
- State License Verification within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS Verification for RNs.
- Tech Cert Verification (for Surgical Technologists and Surgical Processing Technicians) within 30 days of start.
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Education accreditation confirmation required immediately after contract signing.
- Transcript/Diploma verification required.
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending.
- Facility-specific dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment.
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate required prior to start and annually.
- Ethics and Compliance Policies review and acknowledgment annually.
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer.
- Hepatitis B - Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted.
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
History & Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application required, including education for nursing candidates.
- Skills checklist required.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Level 1 trauma OR with a diverse surgical case mix. Candidates must meet strict credentialing, background, and health requirements to ensure compliance and patient safety.
