Job Description
- Primary Unit: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- Float: Main OR, primarily Orthopedic & General Surgery cases
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 2.5+ years of OR experience
- Circulating nurse required; Scrub nurse preferred
- Some transplant experience required (cardiac, lung, kidney highly preferred)
- Types of Cases:
- Valve replacement, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), TAVR, dissection, VATS
- Main OR cases: General surgery, orthopedic surgery, standard cardiac surgeries (CABG, AVR, MVR), TAVR, TCAR, TEVAR, VATS, VADs
- Endovascular and vascular experience required (e.g., Endovascular AAA, carotid endarterectomy, arteriogram, angiogram, TCAR, AV fistula, fem-pop bypass)
- On-Call Requirements:
- 24-hour on-call on one weekend per month (Saturday/Sunday)
- 8-hour on-call shifts on two weekdays (either 3-11 pm or 11 am-7 pm)
- Charting System: EPIC/OR Manager (PICIS)
- Additional Info:
- First-time travelers accepted
- Scrubs provided
- Block/special scheduling requires prior approval
- Return to Office (RTO) must be included with submission
Required Credentials & Compliance
Licensure & Verification
- Valid RN license with legal last name matching documentation
- NURSYS verification as applicable
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior verified, allowing 30-day gaps or less)
- Two references within last 2 years (one managerial)
Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all RNs
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for adult critical care units, ED, PCU, L&D, outpatient surgery, RN managers; NOT required for CVOR RN
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ED, outpatient surgery, PACU, PICU, pediatrics; NOT required for CVOR RN
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, NICU, mother-baby units; NOT required for CVOR RN
- Chemotherapy Certification: Required if applicable (ONS/ONCC for adults, APHON for pediatrics)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health RNs
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for adult critical care, ED, telemetry, MS/Tele, cath lab units; not required for CVOR RN
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): Required for L&D and mother-baby units only
- Tech Certifications: As applicable for allied health professionals
Competency Exams & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs and LPNs
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for critical care, ED, telemetry, cath lab, and educators
- Color Blind Testing (if job tasks require color discrimination)
- Pass/Fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation policy
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 12 months, must clear candidate to perform essential job functions and be free of communicable disease
- TB Testing: Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes; additional clearance for history of positive TB
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Influenza vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity proof required
- Varicella immunity proof required
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccine compliance required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within last 10 years
- Fit Testing: On-site N-95 respirator fit test required if job duties require respirator use
- Latex Allergy Screening: Required if job tasks involve glove use
- Respiratory Medical Clearance: Required prior to start for respirator use
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Mandatory during flu season (Sept-April) unless exempted
Facility & Orientation Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety manuals
- Annual education sign-off and competency validation
- Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions within 30 days of start
- Vendor medical clearance form if history of positive TB
- Annual training on OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission standards
- Completion of required online training modules (e.g., Iron Temple for MAB certification) as applicable
