Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MS Float Pool

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Hours: 36 hours/week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Holiday Rotation: Required
  • On Call: Not required
  • Float Assignment: Med Surg floors at Main hospital and Ashley River tower
  • Patient Ratios: May vary depending on unit assigned
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • License Required: South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact RN License
  • Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Block Schedule: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis

Required Credentials & Documentation

Licensure & Certifications

  • South Carolina RN License or Compact License (Primary Source Verification required)
  • BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) - must be valid beyond 30 days from start
  • ACLS (AHA only) - required for certain units (e.g., Adult Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, ER, ICU)
  • PALS - required for Pediatric units except Pediatric OR
  • NRP - required for applicable neonatal roles
  • TNCC - required as applicable, not required for ER RNs
  • CHEMO certification - required only for Oncology unit (specific unit)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for ER and as applicable
  • IV Therapy Certification - required for select LPNs
  • Tech Certification - required for Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, Ultrasound Techs, Pathology Assistants, MLTs (ASCP or equivalent)
  • NURSYS Verification for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
  • Radiation Badge - required for specific units (e.g., CVOR, Cath Lab, Radiation Oncology)

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification (diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed)
  • State-specific Medicaid Excluded Providers search (South Carolina)
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
  • TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • CBC and Biochem Panel: Required for Sterile Processing Techs only
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Fit test required; PAPR not provided by facility

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay orientation modules prior to start
  • Passport-style badge photo required before start
  • Sterile Processors require a physical assessment form signed by a licensed provider within 1 year of start

Additional Notes

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Candidates with more than 7 days of requested time off (RTO) including holidays require facility approval, which may delay the process
  • Hurricane season staffing may affect assignment confirmation
  • All certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; renewals or scheduled courses required if expiring soon

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, teaching, and magnet-designated hospital with a supportive float pool environment. Candidates should be prepared for night shifts, weekend rotations, and holiday coverage. Compliance with all licensure, certification, health, and background requirements is mandatory.
