Job Details

Unit & Experience Requirements

  • Primary Unit: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
  • Float: Main OR, primarily Orthopedics & General Surgery cases
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2.5+ years of OR experience required
    • Circulating nurse experience required; Scrub experience preferred
    • Transplant experience required (Cardiac, lung, and/or kidney highly preferred)
    • Case types include: valve replacement, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), TAVR, dissection, VATs
    • Main OR experience in General and Orthopedics, standard cardiac procedures (CABG, AVR, MVR), TAVR, TCAR, TEVAR, VATs, VADs
    • Endovascular and vascular experience required (e.g., Endovascular AAA, carotid endarterectomy, arteriogram, angiogram, TCAR, AV fistula, fem-pop bypass)

Schedule & On-Call

  • On-call 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays (one weekend per month)
  • On-call 8-hour shifts on two weekdays (either 3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am)

Charting System

  • EPIC / OR Manager (PICIS)

Required Documentation & Compliance

Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List checks within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal
  • All aliases must be included in background checks
  • Pending background checks require signed attestation at start
  • No open cases allowed to start

Certifications (as applicable)

  • ACLS: Required for RN Manager, ED, Adult Critical Care, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D; preferred for Behavioral Health; not required for CVOR RN
  • BLS: Required for all RNs and many tech roles; not required for some specialized roles (e.g., Med Tech, LMSW)
  • NRP: Required for L&D, Mother Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, Special Care Nursery; not required for CVOR RN
  • PALS: Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, Pediatrics; not required for CVOR RN or Endoscopy RN
  • Chemotherapy Certification: Required for adult and pediatric chemo certified nurses as applicable
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): Required for Mother-Baby, Couplet Care, Postpartum, and L&D RNs
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health RNs; online and in-person training required
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for Adult Critical Care, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab; not required for CVOR RN
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and EKG competency exams required for clinical staff in applicable units
  • Competency Exams: Medication, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and other competency exams required within 12 months of start

Health Documents

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum)
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start (on-site fit testing mandatory)
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
  • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of RWJBarnabas Health floating policy for every new assignment
  • Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required prior to start
  • Vendor medical clearance form required for candidates with history of positive TB
  • Baxter orientation videos and attestation required for RNs
  • Annual CEU requirements for certain specialties (e.g., Certified Surgical Techs)
  • Background attestation signed if background checks are pending at start
  • TB questionnaire and annual updates required
  • Influenza attestation for exemption if applicable

History & Verification

  • 7 years of work history required, with all gaps accounted for
  • 2 references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Employment application or resume required
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)
