Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVOR RN)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Shift: Combination of 2x8 hour and 2x12 hour shifts, between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM, including on-call hours.
  • Flexibility: Must be flexible to cover varying hours as needed.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years in cardiac, vascular, and transplant nursing.
  • Minimum 1 year CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Level I Trauma facility.
  • Note: Use the highest required years of experience, so 2+ years in specialty areas is the baseline.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit.
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM).

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with General OR procedures.
  • Cardiovascular, Thoracic, Vascular, and Transplant nursing skills.
  • Proficiency with EPIC charting system is required.
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams, including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must be current within 1 year and updated annually).

Licensure and Background Requirements

  • Valid nursing license verification required within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs.
  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply).
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring required.
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN).
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed).

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and no contagious disease.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Annual completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • Compliance with facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and fraud/waste/abuse training.
