Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Kankakee, Illinois

Required Experience & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent ER nursing experience (prefer more)
• Prior travel experience is required
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC (TNCC may be waived if candidate has strong ER experience)
• EPIC experience required

Department & Facility Information

• Trauma Level: Stroke and STEMI receiving, Level 2 for adults and pediatrics
• ER Size: 35 beds with 2 trauma bays
• Fast Track: Yes, 8 beds
• Separate triage area using ESI triage algorithm
• Psych/seclusion rooms staffed by ER nurses
• Security present in ER during highest volume times
• Average patients treated per day: 111
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Mix of trauma and medical cases including gunshot wounds, violent crime, strokes, STEMI, mental health
• Pediatric cases: respiratory illness, fractures
• Trauma patients managed if nurse has trauma background

Clinical & Support Staff

• Common drips: All critical care drips
• ED Physicians and Mid-level providers present (up to 2 MDs and 3 midlevels during busiest times)
• Charge nurse/team lead available 24/7
• Support staff includes LPNs (nights), techs, paramedics (tech duties and IVs), who also assist with blood draws and EKGs
• Respiratory Therapists respond to codes and cover respiratory tasks (not housed in ER)
• ER nurses monitor and interpret telemetry strips
• X-Ray and CT located next door; nurse transports critical patients and after-hours patients

Work Schedule & Orientation

• Multiple shift start times between 5 AM and 9 PM; shifts are 12 hours
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement
• Unit-specific orientation: one 12-hour shift
• Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
