Job Opportunity: Med Tele RN - Illinois (Kankakee)

Position Details

• Specialty: Med Tele RN
• Location: Kankakee, Illinois
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: Medical Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 31
• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (5 PM - 5 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: May float to medical floors or step-down units to care for telemetry-level patients
• Scrub Color: Caribbean colored scrubs
• Orientation: 1 shift (12 hours)

Required Certifications and Licenses

• BLS Certification
• Illinois RN license (must have in hand)
• Driver’s license required for submission

Experience and Skills

• Must have EPIC experience
• Preferred travel experience (not strictly required but preferred)
• Experience with radial band and femoral catheter recoveries
• Familiarity with common diagnoses: CHF, strokes, chest pain, diabetes mellitus, pneumonia, COPD, detox, underlying cardiac conditions, and cath lab recoveries
• Experience with common titratable or set rate drips such as Lasix, heparin, bumex, protonix, octreotide
• RNs read telemetry; centralized telemetry tech support available
• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips

Unit Support Staff

• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Team Lead during the day (does not take patients); Charge nurse on nights/weekends/holidays (does take patients)
• Nurse Aides present with ratio approximately 1:10-12
• Respiratory Therapy/Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP (intermittent use only)

Additional Notes

• Local candidates living within 20 miles of the facility are accepted
• Clinical prescreen required before consideration
• Scheduling attempts to accommodate preferences when possible
• Radius rule applies for clinicians living within 50 miles (affects pay rate but not relevant here)

This position is suitable for experienced Med Tele RNs with EPIC experience and Illinois licensure, comfortable with telemetry patients and common cardiac and respiratory conditions, and able to work 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday coverage.
