Position Details

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent OR or CST experience.
  • Must have 18 months permanent OR or CST experience prior to travel.
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.

Certifications Required

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) & NBSTA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) required at time of submission.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required for many specialties (check specific unit requirements).
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for ER.
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) preferred but not required for RNFAs.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred but not required for PACU.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) required for L&D, OB/GYN, and NICU.
  • Annual renewal required for certifications expiring within 30 days of start.
  • Pass/Fail ECG rhythm recognition and safeMedicate testing during orientation.

Licensure & Verification

  • State License primary source verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Background checks including FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; candidates can start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
  • Drug testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam.
  • Fit mask test (3M N95) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination
    • Varicella vaccinations or positive titer
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31).
  • Annual TB questionnaire if history of positive TB.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
  • For OR Tech First Assistants (CSFA) and RNFAs, 10 years prior work history required.
  • References: 2 references required from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director within one year of start.
  • For OR Tech First Assistants and RNFAs, 4 references required (3 peer-level and 1 supervisor/physician within 2 years).
  • Annual skills checklist and unit-specific competency exams required.
  • Completion of facility-specific onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
  • Photo for badge required for OR Tech First Assistants and RNFAs.

Orientation & Testing

  • ECG rhythm recognition and safeMedicate pass/fail testing during orientation.
  • Pass/fail testing not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts at Cleveland Clinic locations.
  • Candidates must work at least every other holiday.

This position requires thorough compliance with certifications, health screenings, background checks, and facility-specific onboarding to ensure readiness for assignment.
