Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist I

Job Summary

• Perform technical duties in all operating room specialty service areas following accepted standards.
• Maintain, assemble, handle, and sterilize specialty instrumentation using aseptic techniques.
• Identify contamination or breaks in aseptic technique and implement corrective actions.
• Perform surgical counts and follow policies for discrepancies.
• Label drugs, solutions, and monitor quantities used.
• Assist in identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Participate in planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal accessibility.
• Assist the surgeon with knowledge of patient anatomy and surgical procedure needs.
• Modify scrubbing procedures as needed and communicate with the surgical team.
• Respond to surgical emergencies and follow emergency management plans.
• Inventory, receive, and store supplies under leadership direction.
• Report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Assist with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
• Support registered nurses during intraoperative phases.
• Operate and troubleshoot complex operating room equipment.
• Serve as a mentor and preceptor for Surgical Technician Trainees as needed.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Experience

• 0 to 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist

Education Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program;
  OR
• Graduate of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology;
  OR
• Formal education/training may be substituted for individuals with 3+ years of prior experience as a surgical tech.

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification required
