Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Tech (CVOR) – Travel/Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Surgical Services (Cardiovascular Operating Room)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Certified Surgical Tech (CVOR) – Scrub role
- Shift: Primarily evening/night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM with on-call requirements
- Schedule: Flexible hours to meet staffing needs (2x8 or 2x12 shifts)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years total Certified Surgical Tech (CST) experience
- At least 2 years experience in cardiac and vascular surgery
- Minimum 1 year experience in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- Minimum 1 year experience working in a Level I Trauma facility
- Experience with cardiovascular/thoracic instrument reprocessing
Required Skills
- General Operating Room procedures
- Thoracic and vascular surgery support
- CVOR procedures including CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacement, etc.
- Aseptic technique
- Crash cart management, scrub and circulate duties
- Equipment documentation
- Charting system: EPIC
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- National Surgical Tech Certification not required, but HSPA or CBSPD certification required for new travelers starting 3/28/25 or later
- ACLS may be required depending on unit (check unit-specific requirements)
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification required
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Facility-specific documents including dress code, hand hygiene policy, fraud/waste/abuse training, and ethics/compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually
