Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, 40 hours/week
Job Description
- Seeking a proficient PICC and MIDLINE nurse.
- Must be able to perform moderate sedation and circulate in Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures.
- Required certifications: ACLS and BLS.
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required.
- Experience considered:
- Procedural experience in OR/CVOR
- ICU/CCU experience (if no procedural experience)
- Cath Lab experience
- Epic electronic health record system experience required.
- Experience in teaching hospitals and community hospitals preferred.
- Open to local candidates and first-time travelers.
Required Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable. Required for Interventional Radiology RN, RN Manager, ED, Adult Critical Care Units, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D.
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable. Required for all RNs and many tech roles.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, Pediatrics.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) for L&D, Mother Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, Special Care Nursery.
- Chemotherapy certification for adult or pediatric chemo nurses.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) for Mother-Baby, Couplet Care, Postpartum, and L&D RNs.
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and general competency exams required within 72 hours of signing. Candidates have 3 attempts to pass.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs. Online and in-person training required.
Experience & Skills
- Proficiency in PICC and MIDLINE line care.
- Ability to perform moderate sedation.
- Circulating experience in IR procedures.
- Epic EHR experience mandatory.
- Experience in procedural areas (OR/CVOR), ICU/CCU, or Cath Lab is a plus.
Work History & References
- Minimum 1 year of verified nursing experience required.
- 7 years of work history must be documented and gaps explained.
- Two references required within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
- Fit testing for respirators and masks as applicable.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions.
- Completion of annual education and safety training (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
Facility & Orientation Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific floating policy.
- Review and sign annual education and safety manuals.
- Vendor medical clearance form if history of positive TB.
- Completion of Baxter orientation videos (RNs only).
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory.
- Completion of required CEUs depending on specialty and role.
Additional Notes
- Candidates switching between RWJBarnabas Health sites within 30 days may have some documentation accepted from previous assignments.
- Name changes must be documented and reflected in all certifications and background checks.
- Candidates must comply with all pass/fail testing policies; failure after 3 attempts results in cancellation.
- Some certifications and trainings have specific expiration and renewal requirements.
This position offers a structured 13-week contract with a consistent weekday schedule, ideal for nurses with PICC/MIDLINE and IR procedural experience seeking travel opportunities in a teaching and community hospital environment.
