Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Columbus, Ohio

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 16 weeks
  • Unit: Mixed Acuity - PCU and MS patients (Oncology experience preferred but not required)
  • Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (may include days, nights, or combination)
  • Schedule: No set schedule or weekends; facility determines schedule and flexibility is required
  • Orientation:
    • Week 1: Monday-Friday day shift orientation
    • Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with preceptor

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years RN experience (highest requirement)
  • EPIC experience required
  • Skills: IV starts, telemetry, tracheostomy management
  • Patient ratio: 1:5
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Prior travel experience preferred (not required)

Certifications Required

  • BCLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit (PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)
  • State RN license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs

Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including FBI/BCI fingerprinting)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing program)
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio codes; new fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days or results older than 1 year
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination not required but recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance must be reviewed and signed annually
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually

Note: Schedule flexibility is critical as there is no fixed weekend or block schedule, and shift assignments may change every 4 weeks based on staffing needs.
