Job Opportunity: RN Medical/Surgical

Location: Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Unit Capacity: 34 beds
  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric medical/surgical patients
  • Patient Age Range: 18 to 60+ years
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Staffing includes RNs, LPNs, Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Nurse Interns (NIs)
  • RN assumes full responsibility for patients on each team

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (must be AHA)
  • Successful completion of a rhythm test
  • Current nursing license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Ascension Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts; updated edition as of Dec 2023)
  • NIH Certification (Group A yearly, Groups B-F every 2 years)
  • Ascension Cerner Test-Out (test results and training checklist with signed attestation)
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training)
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules (for non-allied positions)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred before start, can be done onsite
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Recent testing required with annual TB questionnaire
  • Positive PPD requires negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start, updated annually

Documentation & Verification Requirements

  • Professional resume/profile
  • Two professional references prior to first assignment
  • Criminal background check including SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender registry (updated annually)
  • EPLS check within 90 days of start
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
  • Employment verification for past 7 years
  • Driver’s License/State ID (valid, matching address requirements)
  • Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot, white or blue background, no filters)
  • Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and extensions

Additional Notes

  • Optional: Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (uploaded by unit leader within a week)
  • Optional: Hiring Manager Evaluation and Name Change Documentation post-assignment

This position requires adherence to Ascension Health’s onboarding and credentialing standards, including multiple exams, certifications, and health screenings to ensure compliance and patient safety.
