Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Psychiatric experience required)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift & Schedule
- 3x12 hour night shifts
- Coverage every other weekend
- No Return to Office (RTO) accepted between 2/15/26 and 2/28/26
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Psychiatric experience required
- Accepts first-time travelers
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- Epic system experience required
Job Duties & Expectations
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and MVR if driving is part of the job
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification required (accredited nursing program)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
- Background check does not need annual update by client but Aya Healthcare requires annual background check for direct candidates
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual test
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption allowed with documentation
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask at all times
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for Aya candidates prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required except for certain excluded units or fully remote positions)
- Remediation process in place for failed EKG exam attempts
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership; charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required (including education for nursing candidates)
- Skills checklist required
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually for new contracts signed 11/7/24 and beyond
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed for contracts signed 5/19/25 and beyond
