Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours)
- Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends
- Unit: PCURN (Progressive Care Unit - Registered Nurse)
- Responsibilities:
- Start and manage IVs
- Administer medications safely
- Monitor vitals and patient responses
- Educate patients on treatments and self-care
- Collaborate with care team on patient plans
- Use EPIC EMR for charting
- Float to lower acuity units if needed
- Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety
Requirements
- Active Ohio RN license
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience
- BCLS, ACLS, and IV certification required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills
- Prior travel experience is a plus (not required)
Certifications & Competencies
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA approved
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA approved
- IV Certification
- Preferred/Unit-Specific Certifications:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) for ER units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) for L&D, Post-Partum, OB
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification for ICU, PCU, ED, Brain & Spine units
- Competency Exams:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter, with remediation process if failed)
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification required (accredited nursing program)
- Fingerprinting (Ohio BCI & FBI) required within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days or results older than 1 year
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Annual review and signing of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
- Adult Tdap vaccination (not TD or DTaP)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed with documentation)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
- Employment application and skills checklist required prior to start
This position offers a structured night shift schedule in a progressive care setting with opportunities to float to lower acuity units. Candidates must meet strict licensing, certification, background, and health requirements to ensure compliance and patient safety.
