Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3x12 hour night shifts
  • Work Days: Weekdays and some weekends, rotating holidays
  • Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3
  • Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of PCU experience (highest stated requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Required Certifications & Skills

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified
  • IV Start
  • Telemetry experience
  • EPIC electronic health record experience (required)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RNs
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining

Competency & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (minimum passing score 76%)

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist required
  • Annual review and acknowledgement of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually

Notes

  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio BCI/FBI codes and within 1 year of start
  • New fingerprinting required if there is a break in service of 90+ days or if previous results are older than 1 year
  • Facility allows renewal of BLS and ACLS certifications onsite
  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for this assignment

This position is ideal for experienced PCU Registered Nurses comfortable with night shifts, floating between units, and working in a fast-paced environment with EPIC documentation.
