Description
Job Opportunity: Surgical Services (Travel/Contract)
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Primary Unit: CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room)
- May float to Main OR if CVOR volume is low
- Schedule:
- 37.5 hours per week
- 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM (3 days)
- 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (1 day)
- On Call:
- 8-hour shift on 2 weekdays (either 3-11 PM or 11 PM-7 AM)
- 24-hour on-call on Saturdays and Sundays (one weekend per month)
- Charting System: Epic
- Scrub Provided
- First Time Travelers Accepted
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 1.5 years of surgical experience
- Must have scrub experience
- Proficiency in heart and lung transplant surgeries required
- Kidney transplant experience highly preferred
- Experience with the following cases:
- Valve replacement
- Coronary artery bypass
- TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
- Dissection
- VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery)
- Must have Hybrid Room, Endovascular, and vascular surgery experience, including:
- Endovascular AAA repair
- Carotid endarterectomy
- Arteriogram, angiogram
- Transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR)
- AV fistula
- Femoral-popliteal bypass
- Cases in Main OR may include:
- General surgery
- Laparoscopic surgery
- Gynecological surgery
- Robotic surgery
- Orthopedic/Neuro surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Pediatric surgery
Certifications & Requirements
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) generally not required for CVOR but verify with program coordinator if needed
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit and specialty (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy certification)
- Must complete required background checks and verifications including:
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- State-specific exclusions list (New Jersey Department of Treasury)
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility requirements
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as required
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and education modules prior to start
- References: 2 references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
Additional Notes
- Block or special scheduling requests must be approved at time of booking
- Return to Office (RTO) must be included with submission
- Candidates switching between RWJ sites with less than 30-day gap may reuse some documentation
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Scrub attire is provided by the facility
