Description

Registered Nurse - MedSurgical Float Pool

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position: MedSurgical Float Pool Nurse
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Weekend nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Total Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Responsibilities:
    • Provide high-quality nursing care in a MedSurgical setting
    • Float between units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed
    • Availability for weekdays, some weekends, and holidays

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a MedSurgical setting
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Proficient in IV starts and telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health records system
  • Ability to manage patient ratios of 1:4-5
  • Strong communication, teamwork, organizational skills, and attention to detail

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for certain units (check unit-specific requirements)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-Specific Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually, except for certain units)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
  • Background acknowledgement and compliance forms must be reviewed and signed

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, or TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed with documentation)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
