Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Michigan, Lansing

Position Details

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Unit: Behavioral Health Unit (majority of assignment), Emergency Room (ER)
  • On Call: No
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may work 1 to all 3 weekend days
  • Floating: Yes, possible float to Pediatrics

Unit Information

  • Level 1 Trauma Center, Stroke Center, Heart Center, and Pediatric Emergency Department
  • High patient-to-nurse ratios (typically 1:5-6, can be up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays)

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (Level I trauma experience required)
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • EPIC charting experience

Preferred Experience

  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
  • Triage experience

Required Certifications

  • State nursing license (Michigan)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Life Support) by American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN as a substitute
  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) preferred/required for ER
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Additional Requirements

  • Must work 3 weekends per 4-week schedule
  • Acknowledge and be prepared for high patient ratios
  • Modules related to the facility are completed onsite during orientation and are not billable hours (approximate 5 hours)

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit requirement for prior travel experience; first-time travelers are accepted

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID (must be current and renewed if expiring during assignment)
  • Social Security Card
  • E-Verify compliance
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year Social Security Number Trace
    • National Criminal History Search (7 years)
    • National Sex Offender Database Search
    • FACIS Level 3 Search
    • Education verification
  • Michigan Workforce Fingerprinting not required for this facility
  • Physical exam within 12 months (must note latex sensitivity)
  • OSHA Respirator Fit Mask form completed at least 1 week prior to start; fit testing onsite
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • 10-panel drug screen with THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • References: 2 from previous employers
  • Resume with 7-year work history
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as required by unit

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center with a supportive environment for first-time travel nurses. Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced ER setting with high patient ratios and weekend work.
