ER RN Travel Job - Iron Mountain, Michigan
Position Details
- Specialty: ER RN
- Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- TNCC
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience
- Open to first-time travelers and duo assignments
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Facility & Unit Information
- Trauma Level IV (No stroke or STEMI receiving; these patients are sent out)
- 14 beds with 2 trauma bays
- Fast Track available with 3 designated rooms
- Separate triage area with 2 rooms; travelers may triage after policy review
- Holding areas intermixed with ER and attached Acute Care Unit (ACU) rooms for overflow
- Psych/seclusion rooms available; any room can be converted as needed
- No 24/7 in-house security; relies on maintenance and local police backup
- Average patient volume: 40-60 patients per day
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3-4 during the day; fewer nurses at night (2 RNs from 3 am to 7 am)
Common Patient Types & Diagnoses
- Trauma cases
- STEMI and stroke patients (sent out)
- Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs)
- Agricultural injuries (farmers, hunting accidents)
- Variable common drips
Staffing & Support
- ED Physicians and Mid-Levels available 24/7 in-house
- Charge nurse takes assignments, with various shift coverage (day and evening)
- Support staff includes CNAs, medics, and LPNs floating for tasks; no dedicated ER team
- Respiratory Therapists (RT) available 24/7 performing ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKG assistance
- No monitor techs; RNs read their own cardiac strips
- X-Ray and CT available 24/7 nearby
- Phlebotomy available 24/7; RNs do not draw labs
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift lengths: 7, 10, or 12 hours; typical shifts include 3 pm and 7 pm starts, possibly 12 pm
- Scheduling done by manager; no block scheduling; attempts to avoid 1-on/1-off rotations
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays during winter, otherwise every other holiday
- Call/standby: volunteer basis, no pay for going home early
- Floating: may be required to float to inpatient units for assistance
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation includes computer-based training plus 2 days of floor orientation and policy review
- Dress code: any solid color, clean and professional attire
Additional Notes
- Clinicians who have previously worked for this healthcare system must have a 6-month gap before reapplying
- All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
