Job Description

• Department: OR - Surgery General (Major)
• Number of Suites: 14 for General Surgery (28 total)
• Average Cases per Day: 20-40 (general surgery)
• Common Cases:

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Laparoscopic colon surgery
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
  • Cystoscopy
  • DaVinci robotic cases
  • Hysterectomy
  • Vascular surgery
  • ENT procedures
  • Urology procedures

Requirements

• Licenses/Certifications:

  • Active RN License
  • BLS (AHA) certification
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in General Surgery, Gynecology, and Urology
  • Must have experience in General Surgery, Urology, Gynecology, and ENT
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Prefer recent experience (within last 2 years) in facilities and ORs of similar size
• Other:

  • Must produce a negative drug screen (drug-free campus)
  • Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius

Work Schedule & Call Requirements

• Shifts:

  • 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM or 12:30 PM – 11:00 PM
  • 36 to 40 hours per week based on contract
  • No self-scheduling; block scheduling based on need
• Call:

  • One call shift per week (various evening/night hours)
  • Weekend call every other or every third weekend (full weekend shifts)
  • Call response time: 30 minutes
  • Sleep policy: If working more than 4 hours after 11:00 PM, 8 hours off after clock-out
• Floating: Possible to other surgery teams or SPD if qualified

Orientation & Other Details

• Orientation: Unit-specific orientation up to one week if needed, plus hospital-wide orientation
• Scrubs: Hospital provided
• Collaboration: Work with surgical technologists in the OR
• Charge Nurse: Present to assist with cases

Additional Notes

• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
• Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay required for the shift

Summary:
This is a 13-week contract for an experienced General Surgery RN with at least 2 years of specialty experience and EPIC EMR proficiency. The role involves working in a busy OR with a variety of general surgery and specialty cases, with scheduled shifts and call responsibilities. Local candidates within 50 miles are preferred.
