Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Technician CVOR
Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work within the CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) service line performing surgical interventions for routine and complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures.
- Cardiac procedures include coronary artery bypass, valve repair/replacement, aortic dissection, heart transplantation, ventricular assist device placement, Impella or intra-aortic balloon pump placement, and adult ECMO.
- TAVR procedures performed in the endovascular OR.
- Thoracic cases include laparoscopic, robot-assisted, and open procedures.
- Vascular procedures include placement/revision of ESRD grafts/fistulas and endovascular procedures.
- The CVOR service line includes 4-6 ORs, including an endovascular suite, capable of handling up to four concurrent cardiopulmonary bypass procedures.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of recent full-time experience as a CVOR technologist in a high-volume hospital setting.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures.
- Candidates with less experience or requiring extensive onboarding will not be considered.
- Prior travel experience is required: Must provide verifiable references from at least two prior travel assignments confirming no training was needed.
Certification & Licensure
- Current Certified Surgical Technician (CST) certification required.
- Current professional license and primary source verification required within 30 days prior to assignment start.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) required.
Schedule
- Shifts of 8, 10, or 12 hours, Monday through Friday, based on department needs.
- Participation in call coverage after normal business hours and on weekends is required.

Candidates must complete and maintain the following:
Professional Credentials & Documentation
- Resume/Profile
- Two professional references
- Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others as required
- Employment verification for the past seven years
- Signed assignment agreement and confirmation of assignment documentation
Certifications & Exams
- Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated yearly)
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty, updated annually)
Health & Safety Requirements
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
- Fit Test: Required for all travelers, preferably completed prior to start
- TB Testing: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, chest X-ray and annual questionnaire required
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment, updated annually
- 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter
Identification
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (must not be expired and must match address requirements)
Additional Notes
- Must be able to function independently in a fast-paced surgical environment and “hit the ground running.”
- Extensive onboarding or training will disqualify candidates.
