Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
• Patient Population: Adult patients including total knee, total hips, neuro spine, urology, overflow trauma, surgery
• Nurse to Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:5-6
  • Nights: 1:6-7
• Floating: Required
• Schedule: Every third weekend and every other holiday
• Charting System: EPIC
• Additional Skills:

  • Ability to care for neuro patient population (stroke, seizure, dementia, brain tumor, acute mental status changes, ambulatory dysfunction)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required

Licensure & Certifications

• Licenses: PA or Compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of submission
• Certifications Required (as applicable to unit):

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA preferred
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA preferred
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - if working in pediatric or ER pediatric units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - if working in L&D or NICU
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - for ER and Pediatric ER (TCRN acceptable if TNCC unavailable)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - for L&D (AWHONN required)
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for neuro, behavioral health, ER, ICU, L&D, medical surgical, OR, PACU, PCU units
• Other Requirements:

  • National certification/verification prior to start and upon expiration (as applicable)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for RNs & LVNs (except certain specialties)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%)

Experience & Travel Requirements

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Background & Screening Requirements

• Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
• Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprint clearance within 90 days of start (required for all except remote workers outside PA)
• Education verification for highest level of education
• State-specific searches including Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search, PATCH, Medicheck
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel or 9-panel (without THC) within 60 days of start; observed drug screen if dilute result
• References: Minimum 2 professional references from employment within last 12 months
• Employment application with 7 years of work history and explanations for gaps

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 2 months of start
• Fit test questionnaire and fit mask test (not required for 100% remote non-clinical)
• Immunizations/vaccinations:

  • TDAP within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual updates not required)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer or completed vaccine series (declinations not accepted)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Flu vaccination required for RNs and allied health (declination allowed only with facility-specific form and masking policy)
  • COVID-19 vaccination required or signed declination with facility-specific form
• Hepatitis C titer required only for Operating Room and Dental specialties (within 12 months)
• Respirator medical clearance required annually for candidates starting 04/07/2025 and beyond

Competency Exams & Testing

• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required annually for RNs & LVNs (except certain specialties)
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months of start
• Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication with remediation and retake policy

Work Environment & Additional Notes

• Floating between units required
• Patient care includes neuro patients with complex neurological conditions
• NIHSS certification mandatory
• Schedule includes every third weekend and every other holiday coverage

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of clinical experience, comfortable working with adult surgical and neuro patient populations, and who hold the necessary certifications and licensure for Pennsylvania.
