Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery Nurse - Alternate Birthing Center

Location: Bloomington, Illinois
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (LDRP) - Alternate Birthing Center


Contract Details

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
    • Days: Saturday/Sunday
    • Nights: Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
    • Days: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day
    • Nights: Memorial Day Eve, July 3rd, Labor Day Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve
  • Call or Standby: No call or standby requirement
  • Floating: Hospital-wide float as needed for tasking/team nursing model
  • Orientation: 2-3 shifts depending on traveler

Unit Information

  • Department: Alternative Birthing Center - LDRP
  • Beds:
    • 12 LDRP rooms (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
    • 2 triage rooms
  • Annual Deliveries: Approximately 700 per year
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Labor: 1:1
    • Couplet (mother and newborn): 1:3
  • Charge Nurse: Charge RN on each shift without patient assignment
  • Support Staff: OB techs and unit secretaries (1 each on day shift, 1 OB tech on night shift)
  • Neonatology: Neonatology provider in-house 24/7

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Experience & Skills

  • Skilled in labor and delivery nursing
  • Preferred: Skilled in all LDRP and nursery areas (including level II nursery care)
  • Familiarity with common diagnoses and patient types: labor (vaginal and C-section), postpartum care, nursery newborns (level II nursery)
  • Experience with CPAP equipment troubleshooting in level II nursery (RT assists with setup)
  • Experience with fetal monitoring systems (Obix EFM system with Phillips monitors)

Licensure & Other Requirements

  • Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
  • Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus policy)
  • BLS and NRP certifications required at minimum

Additional Notes

  • Hospital provides scrubs
  • Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
  • OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay deduction
