Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Unit: 19 James Med Surg Oncology
  • Shift: 12-hour nights
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Patient care focus includes:
    • Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
    • Care for soft tissue malignancy patients receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, and symptom management
    • Symptom management secondary to disease treatment or progression
    • Management of comorbidities
    • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years RN experience required
  • Prior travel experience preferred (not required)
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required
  • Patient ratio: 1:4
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level

Clinical Skills Required:

  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Accessing ports
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • IV starts
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Equipment Used:

  • B450 monitors with GE telemetry system
  • Bladder scanner
  • Alaris pumps
  • Stryker beds

Certifications & Competencies

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required
  • EPIC experience required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) – verify per unit requirements

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific)
  • Education accreditation verification required (accredited nursing program)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending results allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required

Additional Requirements

  • Must provide 2 professional references, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Required to sign and acknowledge ethics and compliance policies annually
  • Must complete orientation safety manual acknowledgment annually

Summary

This is a 16-week travel RN contract position on a medical-surgical oncology unit working 12-hour night shifts. The role requires a minimum of 2 years RN experience, EPIC proficiency, and a strong skill set in oncology-related nursing care including line management, dysrhythmia interpretation, and symptom management. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, and certifications is required.
