Unit Details

• Department: Medical Acute Care Unit
• Beds: 20
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night shift: 1:5 or 1:6
• Patient Type: General medical unit (medical acute care)
• Common Diagnoses: General medical conditions

Shift & Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: 3 out of 6 holidays per year
• Call/Standby: Depends on hospital staffing needs
• Floating: Travel RNs are first to float; otherwise rotation based on last who floated

Experience & Certifications

• Required Specialty Experience: General medical experience (no specific years stated, assume minimum)
• Required Certifications: BLS (AHA)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Preferred for Travelers: General medical/surgical experience

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: Present 24/7; ideally no patient assignment but may take one if short staffed
• House Supervisor: Present 24/7
• Patient Care Techs (PCTs): Present 24/7

  • Day ratio: 1 PCT per 6-7 patients
  • Night ratio: 1 PCT per 10 patients
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: No ventilators on unit
• Telemetry: Some patients on telemetry with Phillips monitors; bedside RNs do not read strips (monitor techs handle this centrally)

Orientation & Other Notes

• Orientation: 3 days/unit-specific
• Dress Code: No scrub color preference; scrubs not provided
• Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required
• Local Placements: Accepted within 50-mile radius
