Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) / Supervisor - Emergency Room (ER) (Nights)

Location: Windsor, Vermont
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role is for a House Supervisor / ED Traveler with supervisory experience required.
  • "Straight" ED travelers without supervisory experience will not be considered.
  • Must be able to work independently without schedule accommodations or concurrent assignments.
  • Emergency Department (ED) has 10 beds with a typical 24-hour patient census of 8-15 patients; more than 12-15 patients/day is considered busy.
  • Patient population includes all ages.
  • The ED team works alongside Physician Assistants (PAs).
  • The role requires quick thinking, prioritization, critical thinking, sharp decision-making, and excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to handle unplanned situations and potentially combative or angry patients/families.
  • Attributes for success: compassion, humor, good organizational skills, and teamwork.
  • Local travelers residing within 50 miles are not eligible.
  • Must have own vehicle due to lack of public transportation.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of recent inpatient nursing experience.
  • Current supervisory experience within the last 6 months is mandatory.
  • Experience in a Critical Access facility is required.
  • Cerner EMR experience is non-negotiable.
  • Vermont RN License or Compact License required.
  • Active certifications required:
    • American Heart Association BLS
    • American Heart Association ACLS
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
    • American Heart Association PALS
  • Skills checklist documentation required for:
    • Emergency Room nursing (current within 1 year)
    • Supervisory skills (current within 1 year)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher preferred.

Additional Information

  • Orientation is 8 hours, non-billable.
  • Call-back, holiday, and overtime multipliers apply.
  • Strict attendance policy: after 3 call-offs, contract may be terminated. Call-offs must be communicated at least 1.5 hours in advance.
  • Requested time off must be submitted and approved at the time of application; no more than 5 days of time off allowed during the assignment.
  • This is a small community setting with no public transportation; personal vehicle is a must.

Work Environment

  • The hospital is a 35-bed critical access community hospital.
  • The ED is known for short wait times, with most patients seen within 30 minutes or less.
  • Windsor, VT offers a quaint community with outdoor recreation and is within driving distance to major cities like Boston, Montreal, and New York.

Note: This position is specifically for a supervisory ED nurse traveler with strong inpatient and leadership experience. Straight ED travelers without supervisory background will not be considered.
