Job Description
Seeking a Certified OR Tech proficient in Ophthalmology (Cataract and Vitrectomy) with experience in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Robotics, and Ophthalmology.
Schedule:
- 4x10 hour shifts
- On-call shifts required
- Weekends as needed (rotating basis)
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years recent acute care hospital experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Must be competent to scrub major procedures in at least three surgical specialties
- Prior travel experience required
- Proficiency in Ophthalmology preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- Excellent communication skills
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) certification preferred
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred
Job Duties
- Assist in preparation and setup of the operating room and specialty tables
- Provide scrub services for minor and major surgical procedures
- Assist surgeons with various intraoperative tasks (e.g., holding retractors, camera holding, sponging, suctioning, electrocautery, cutting sutures, staple skin closure)
- Care for surgical specimens and communicate with circulating nurse
- Assist in postoperative patient transfer and OR sanitation
- Operate and maintain specialized surgical equipment
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert for at least one surgical service
- Assist with maintenance of physician preference lists and specialty instruments
- Precept personnel rotating through specialty services
- Participate in continuing education and unit meetings
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and customer service standards
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Diploma from an accredited surgical technology program or documented on-the-job training preferred
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
- Sex offender search within 90 days of start
- Drug screening (9 panel, excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law) within 6 months of start
- Education verification (highest level achieved)
- Employment history verification (7 years, no gaps over 30 days)
- TB screening and annual renewal
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination (during flu season)
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations required prior to start
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be able to participate in planning and provision of perioperative care for patients across adolescence to late adulthood
- Must comply with Joint Commission and National Patient Safety goals
- Must demonstrate commitment to professional development and organizational values
This position is ideal for a Surgical Technologist with solid acute care experience, proficiency in multiple surgical specialties including Ophthalmology, and prior travel contract experience.
