Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Unit: HVTI-Stepdown
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts only (D/N rotating shifts: 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
- Shifts may be rotated as needed to meet hospital operational needs
- Must work at least every other holiday
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel
- Minimum 18 months of recent Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
- PCU/Progressive care experience preferred but not required
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
- Required certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
- NIHSS Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required
Orientation & Testing
- Pass/fail ECG and medication testing completed onsite during orientation
- Orientation includes completion of SafeMedicate exam
- Online training modules must be completed prior to start (typically takes multiple days)
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video must be watched before test
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Measles (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Mumps (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
Background & Screening
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Fingerprints must be completed under nursing code 4723.09
- Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if prints are completed prior to start
- State-specific fingerprint attestation required
Documentation & History
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
- Annual skills checklist required
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all onboarding modules and pass required competency exams before starting
- Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification
- PAPRs may be approved on a case-by-case basis for mask fit failures due to religious or medical exemptions
- Candidates returning to the facility with less than a 6-month gap may have some orientation/testing exemptions
