Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Unit: HVTI-Stepdown (Stepdown Unit)
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3x12's)
- Shift Times: Day/Night rotating shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
- Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital operational needs
- Must work at least every other holiday
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel
- Minimum 18 months of recent Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation
Orientation & Testing
- Pass/fail ECG and medication competency testing completed onsite during orientation
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
- Online training modules must be completed prior to start (typically takes multiple days)
- SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for review before orientation testing
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant screens not accepted)
Background & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender registry, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite
- Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
Additional Requirements
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
- Candidates must be capable of safely performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
- Candidates must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Notes
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
- Candidates must be prepared for variable shift rotations if needed
- Orientation and onboarding modules are high priority and must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome
- Candidates with gaps longer than 40 days between assignments may need to update physical exam, chest X-ray, and eye exam
