Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)

Licensing

• Must have Michigan RN license in hand

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience
• Open to first-time travelers and duo assignments
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Department & Patient Care Details

• Trauma Level IV
• No stroke or STEMI receiving (patients are sent out)
• 14 beds with 2 trauma bays
• Fast Track available with 3 designated rooms
• Separate triage area with 2 rooms; travelers may triage after policy review
• Holding area within ER and attached Acute Care Unit (ACU) rooms for overflow
• Separate psych/seclusion rooms available and can convert other rooms as needed
• Security is not in-house 24/7; relies on maintenance, local police, and internal code backup
• Average patient volume: 40-60 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4 during the day; fewer nurses at night (2 RNs from 3 am to 7 am)
• Common patient types: traumas, STEMI, strokes, hunting injuries, motor vehicle accidents, farmers

Clinical Support & Team

• ED Physicians and Mid-Levels available 24/7 in-house
• Charge nurse takes assignments, with various shift coverage
• Support staff includes CNAs, medics, LPNs floating for tasks; no dedicated ER team
• Respiratory Therapists (RT) available 24/7, perform ABGs, breathing treatments, and assist with EKGs
• No dedicated monitor techs; RNs read their own cardiac strips
• X-Ray and CT available 24/7 nearby
• Phlebotomy services available 24/7; RNs do not draw labs

Scheduling & Work Hours

• Shifts: 7, 10, 12, 3, 7 (12-hour shifts)
• Schedule created by manager; attempts to avoid 1-on/1-off shifts; variable start times may rotate
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays during winter; usually every other holiday during contract
• Call/standby: voluntary to go home without pay
• Floating: may be required to float to inpatient units for assistance

Orientation & Policies

• Computer-based training plus 2 days of floor orientation (including policies and department specifics)
• Must clock in and out at the facility
• Dress code: any solid color, clean and professional

Note: If previously worked at this facility, must have a minimum 6-month gap since last assignment.
