Job Opportunity: RN Medical/Surgical

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Start Date: January 12 (Non-negotiable)
  • Shift Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Floating: May be required to float between units or facilities within a 35-mile radius based on staffing needs, patient census, and acuity. Notification will be given before the scheduled shift if floating is required.

Required Credentials & Onboarding Requirements

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • NIH Certification (Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years)

Testing & Exams

  • Ascension Medical Surgical Exam: Minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts, updated every 3 years
  • Ascension EKG Exam: Minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts, latest edition required
  • Ascension Core Competencies: Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated yearly
  • Ascension Cerner Test-Out: Cerner test results and training checklist with signed attestation
  • Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist, updated annually

Health & Immunizations

  • Influenza Vaccine (or mask requirement during flu season Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred before start, can be done onsite
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Recent testing required with annual TB questionnaire
  • Positive PPD: Negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire if applicable
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter

Professional Documentation

  • Resume/Profile
  • Two professional references prior to first assignment
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others within 30 days of assignment
  • EPLS check within 90 days of start
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
  • Employment verification for past 7 years
  • Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and each extension
  • Driver’s License/State ID (valid, matching address requirements)
  • Badge photo: Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations

Onboarding & Training

  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training)
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules
  • Ascension Color Vision test (updated every 3 years)

Additional Notes

  • Floating assignments are based on staffing needs and will be communicated in advance.
  • Flu season mask policy applies if vaccine is declined.
  • Some optional documents may be requested by unit leaders during onboarding.

This position requires thorough compliance with Ascension Health’s credentialing, testing, and onboarding standards to ensure patient safety and quality care.
