Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a Neuro combined unit with Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Med-Surg (MS) level patients.
  • Neuro ICU travelers may be accepted if PCU/MS units are closed due to staffing ratios.
  • Patient Ratios:
    • PCU: 1:3
    • MS: 1:4
  • Schedule: Rotating weeknights and weekends, including holidays.
  • Float requirement: Must be willing to float to different units within the organization as needed.
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (PCU preferred, MS RN also accepted).

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of PCU or Med-Surg nursing experience (highest requirement).
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for most ICU, PCU, and Brain & Spine units)
  • Skills:
    • EPIC electronic health record experience required.
  • Competencies:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
    • Unit-specific competency exam required.
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred (not required).

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code required).
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN).
  • State license verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification for RNs.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, compliance, and fraud/waste/abuse policies.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.

Work Environment

  • Rotating shifts with nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Floating to different units as needed within the hospital system.

This position is ideal for experienced PCU or Med-Surg RNs with neuro ICU interest and EPIC experience, seeking a travel contract in Ohio with a reputable healthcare system.
