Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Overview

Join a Level 1 Trauma 18-bed Operating Room performing a variety of surgeries including:

  • General
  • Robotic
  • Laparoscopic
  • Trauma
  • Orthopedic
  • Neurosurgery
  • Spinal
  • Ophthalmology
  • ENT
  • Plastics
  • Burns
  • Urology
  • GYN
  • Transplant

Work Schedule

  • Shifts: Mix of 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week
  • Hours: 06:30 - 23:30 (Day/Evening shifts)
  • Call Hours:
    • Monday-Friday: 21:00 - 06:30
    • Saturday and Sunday: Two 12-hour shifts (06:30-19:00 and 19:00-06:30)

Responsibilities

  • Provide care during surgical procedures
  • Circulate with focus on Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases
  • Collaborate closely with the surgical team
  • Maintain patient records using EPIC

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience (highest required years of experience)
  • Experience in Level 1 trauma centers
  • Current EPIC proficiency
  • BCLS certification

Preferred Experience

  • ENT
  • GU (Genitourinary)
  • Plastics
  • Burns

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for certain units; can be renewed onsite
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER and related units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for L&D, Post-Partum, OB
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Facility-specific requirements
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required for all RNs within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams may be required

Licensure & Verification

  • State RN license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing programs only)
  • Transcript/Diploma verification for relevant programs

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Pending background check attestation allowed for candidates starting with fingerprint results pending
  • Subcontractors must complete additional background acknowledgements and fingerprinting proof
  • Annual review and signing of facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
