Description
Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) – Oncology Acute
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Specialty: Oncology Acute (SFMC)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Unit Type: Oncology Acute
- Beds: 19 private beds
- Patient Types: All cancer types (most common Lymphoma and Leukemia), Hematology, medical patients, radiation oncology, and Gyn/Onc patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: Typically 1:5 (can vary 1:4-5)
- Nights: Typically 1:6 (can vary 1:5-6)
- 1:1 staffing for specific medications/therapies as needed
- Charge Nurse: Present 24/7, usually does not take patient assignments but may occasionally
- House Supervisor: Present 24/7
- Patient Care Techs (PCTs):
- 3 PCTs from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- 2 PCTs from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
Certifications & Experience Requirements
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (AHA)
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
- Experience:
- Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens and administration
- Knowledge of handling chemotherapy precautions (PPE) and monitoring medication side effects
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but experience with chemotherapy administration is required (implied minimum 1+ year)

Clinical & Technical Details
- IV Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy: Hanging, administration, and monitoring side effects

- Respiratory Therapy Equipment:
- Bipap (only if patient’s home regimen)
- Cpap (RNs assist)
- RT staff manage both Bipap and Cpap 24/7
- Telemetry:
- House-wide telemetry system (Phillips monitors)
- RNs do not interpret telemetry strips
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
- Shift Times: 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM start
- Scheduling:
- Flexible based on unit needs (may split contract between days and nights or nights only)
- Self-scheduling with coordination for time-off requests
- Schedule finalized every 6 weeks
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Travelers participate in float rotation; floating shifts are 4+ hours and assigned fairly
- Scrub Color/Dress Code: No specific scrub color required; scrubs not provided
Orientation & Additional Notes
- Orientation Length: 24-36 hours, unit/department specific
- EMR System: Epic Beacon
- Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required
- Local Placements: Accepts clinicians living within 50 miles (local rate adjustments apply)
