Description
Job Opportunity: MedSurg Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Mullins, South Carolina
Contract Length: 6 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7 PM - 7 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Rotation: Yes
On-call: No
Floating: Yes, within scope to like units/sister facilities
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Specialty: MedSurg Registered Nurse
- Years of Experience Required: 1 year
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (see Certifications section below)
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA or ARC only) required for all clinical staff
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable (check unit-specific requirements)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as required
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as required
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as required
- NIH Stroke Certification as required
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
- Competency Exam required
Note: Certifications expiring within 30 days of start date are not accepted; candidates must renew prior to start or have a course scheduled.

Background & Verification Requirements
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Background check must include:
- SSN Trace
- County checks outside SC
- SC Statewide check
- Sex Offender Registry
- National Criminal check
- FACIS 3
- International searches required
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification preferred; diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers (exceptions apply)
- Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Initial physical exam, updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titer requires boosters
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titer requires boosters
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID vaccines not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (2-6 hours depending on location)
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required
- Signed assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and user access request required prior to start
- Job description and new employee screening assessment must be completed
- Religious exemption form required if applicable
- Physical assessment for sterile processing techs (if applicable)
- Radiation badge required for certain departments (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology) but not for others (MRI, Mammography, Ultrasound)
Additional Notes
- Approval for block scheduling can be requested but is not guaranteed
- Travelers must float within scope as needed
- Locals are not accepted for this assignment
- All certifications and licenses must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start
- Travelers must upload all required health and vaccination documentation into the facility’s system
This position is ideal for a MedSurg RN with at least 1 year of experience, who is flexible with night shifts and weekend rotations, and is ready for a 6-week travel assignment in South Carolina.
