Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts (10:45 AM - 9:15 PM)
- Rooms: 23 rooms
- Minimum Experience Required: 3 years in specialty (Operating Room)
- First-timers: Not accepted
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend per month
- On-call Requirement: Yes, approximately 1 per week (may vary)
- Floating: Rarely, only within skill set
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
- Licensure: Must have active Illinois RN license or be in the application process
- Time Off: All requested time off must be approved by manager
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
Certifications & Licenses Required
- BLS: Required
- CNOR: Preferred
- Additional Certifications: ACLS, PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
- State License: Active Illinois RN license required or in process
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start
- Other Verifications: Education verification, NURSYS verification, competency exam
Clinical Requirements & Experience
- General: General OR and Level I Trauma experience required
- Preferred: Cerner charting experience
- Surgical Case Experience Required:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
- Emergency Management Skills: Code response, Fire safety, Latex allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
- Equipment Experience: Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
- Professional Skills: Administration of blood products, Infection control, Radiation safety, Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure, Urinary bladder catheterization

- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Various state-specific background and registry checks required within 30 days of start
- Badge photo required before start
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be able to work all service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
- Must be able to handle trauma and emergency cases as described
- Prior travel experience is not required
- Candidate must be willing to comply with all facility policies and documentation requirements
