Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology/Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Position Details
- Specialty: Oncology / Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MS RN)
- Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour day shifts
- Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (Oncology/MS)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: Floating within scope as needed
- Schedule Flexibility: Open to block schedule requests (discuss with manager)
- Local Candidates: Accepted, no radius restrictions
- Licensure: Must have active Illinois nursing license or be in the application process
Certifications & Skills
- Preferred Certifications:
- Chemotherapy certification preferred (not required)
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) and ONS/ONCC certifications preferred
- Required Skills:
- Chemotherapy administration and management (including continuous infusion, IV push, oral administration)
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing abnormal lab values
- IV therapy and infusion skills including:
- Accessing ports
- Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood products
- Care and management of ports, central lines, PICC lines
- Starting IVs
- Certifications Required Based on Unit/Specialty:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if applicable

Requirements & Compliance
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions lists
- Education Verification: Initial degree verification required (official or unofficial transcripts accepted if pending)
- Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
- Photo for Badge: Required within one week of contract signing
- Physical Exam: Required within one year of start, must confirm good physical and mental health, free of communicable disease, and ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit Mask Test: Required (specific mask types accepted), not completed onsite
- TB Testing: 2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold within one year of start; chest x-ray required if positive TB test within past year
- Immunizations:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
- Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu Vaccination: Required or approved medical/religious exemption by November 30 annually
- References: Two professional references required for clinical candidates
- Skills Checklist: Required for all clinical candidates
Additional Notes
- No on-call requirement
- Guaranteed hours with some allowance for client call-offs
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Must comply with Illinois-specific state searches and registry requirements, including fingerprinting within Illinois for those without an IL license
This position is suitable for nurses with oncology and medical-surgical experience seeking a travel contract in a large, Magnet-recognized acute care hospital with a Level I trauma center designation. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
