Job Opportunity: CVOR Tech - Surgical Services
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Primary Unit: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- May float to Main OR if CVOR volume is low
- Required Experience: Minimum 1.5 years in surgical services
- Must have scrub experience
- Proficiency required in heart and lung transplant cases; kidney transplant experience highly preferred
- Types of cases include:
- Valve replacement
- Coronary artery bypass
- Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
- Dissection
- Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS)
- Must have experience with Hybrid Room, Endovascular, and vascular procedures such as:
- Endovascular AAA repair
- Carotid endarterectomy
- Arteriogram, angiogram
- Transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR)
- AV fistula creation
- Femoral-popliteal bypass
- Cases in Main OR may include:
- General surgery
- Laparoscopic surgery
- Gynecological surgery
- Robotic surgery
- Orthopedic/Neuro surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Pediatric surgery
- On-call requirements:
- 8-hour shifts on 2 weekdays (either 3-11 pm or 11-7 pm)
- 24-hour on-call coverage on Saturdays and Sundays (one weekend per month)
- Charting system used: Epic
- Scrub provided
- BLS certification required
- First-time travelers accepted
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1.5 years of surgical services experience (use higher if conflicting info)
- Scrub experience mandatory
- Heart and lung transplant proficiency required
- Hybrid Room and Endovascular surgical experience required
- BLS certification required
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted
Certifications & Competencies (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all RNs and relevant techs
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Not required for CVOR Techs
- Other certifications may be required depending on specific assignments or units (confirm with coordinator)
Scheduling & On-Call
- 8-hour shifts on two weekdays (3-11 pm or 11-7 pm)
- 24-hour on-call on weekends (one weekend per month)
- Block or special scheduling requires prior approval
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Must clear background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches
- Drug screening within 30 days of start required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray required
- Physical exam within 12 months required, confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start
- Influenza vaccination or approved exemption required annually
- Completion of facility-specific education and orientation modules prior to start
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
- Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually or as specified
- Compliance with facility floating policy and other RWJBarnabas Health specific policies

This is a 13-week travel contract for a CVOR Tech with a focus on cardiovascular and transplant surgical cases in Newark, NJ.
