Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (RN CVOR)
Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide surgical nursing care in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) service line, which includes routine and complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures.
- Cardiac procedures include coronary artery bypass, valve repair/replacement, aortic dissection, heart transplantation, ventricular assist device placement, Impella or intra-aortic balloon pump placement, adult ECMO, and TAVR procedures in the endovascular OR.
- Thoracic cases include laparoscopic, robot-assisted, and open procedures.
- Vascular procedures include placement/revision of ESRD grafts/fistulas and endovascular procedures.
- The CVOR service line operates 4-6 ORs, including an endovascular suite, with capacity for up to four concurrent cardiopulmonary bypass procedures.
- Must function independently in a fast-paced surgical environment and be able to “hit the ground running.”
Required Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 3 years of recent full-time experience as a CVOR Registered Nurse in a high-volume hospital setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures.
- Candidates with less experience or requiring extensive onboarding will not be considered.
- Current RN licensure required.
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Verifiable references from at least two prior travel assignments confirming no training was needed.
- Prior travel experience is required (must have completed at least two prior travel assignments with no training needed).
Schedule
- 12-hour day shifts based on department needs.
- Participation in call coverage after normal business hours and on weekends is required.
Required Credentials & Onboarding Requirements
- BLS (AHA) certification.
- Current RN license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Specialty competency exam in CVOR completed prior to first assignment and updated every 3 years.
- Color vision test completed prior to start and updated every 3 years.
- Core competencies training (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA) completed within a year of start and updated yearly.
- Various health and immunization requirements including:
- MMR (proof of two vaccines or positive titer, no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination documentation
- Influenza vaccine (seasonal, exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
- Varicella immunity or vaccination (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap vaccination (no declinations accepted)
- TB testing (PPD or IGRA) with negative chest X-ray and annual questionnaire
- Drug screening: 12-panel urine drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Criminal background checks, employment verification, education verification, and professional references required.
- Driver’s license or state ID verification.
- Fit testing for respiratory protection completed prior to start.
- Completion of onboarding education modules and various Ascension-specific checklists and attestations.
Summary
This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with a strong background in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical nursing who have prior travel experience and can work independently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The role requires a commitment to a 13-week contract with day shifts and call coverage responsibilities. Comprehensive credentialing and health requirements must be met prior to assignment start.
